About the event

Please join us for this solemn and moving candlelit service as we journey toward the good news of Easter. Everyone is welcome.

But maybe you are wondering what Maundy even means? Or what on earth a Tenebrae Service is?

Maundy is the English form of the Latin word meaning "commandment."  Jesus' new commandment to "love one another" is the focus of Maundy Thursday.

Tenebrae comes from the Latin word for darkness, and  is a religious service characterized by readings about the life of Jesus and the gradual extinguishing of candles after each, ending with the church in near total darkness as we ponder his cruxifiction and burial. Sacred music is another traditional compenent, and our incredile choir's songs add a hauntingly beautiful element.

Although each church's services will vary (for instance we typically have 9 readings, not 16) the video below gives a good overview of what a Tenebrae Service is about.…
