The Joy of Music
Music moves people almost more than anything. We are abundantly blessed to have a music program here that is one of the very finest in the Orlando area.
Music’s role at First Congregational goes far beyond the joy of providing music for our worship services. It also enthusiastically embraces the opportunity to enrich the church and the community culturally, as well as providing a basic foundation of musical education.
From masterworks to recitals, concerts and children’s programs, our music prorgram encourages a wide range of variety while keeping its feet firmly planted in a long and distinguished history of providing the finest of church music.
- Chancel Choir – Led by Dr. John Sinclair, Chair of the Department of Music and the “John M. Tiedtke Professor of Music” at Rollins College, and accompanied by Christopher Olivent on organ and piano, our Chancel Choir is made up of singers from both congregation as well as students and faculty from Rollins. All are invited to join us, and rehearsals are Wednesday evenings at 7:30 pm.
- Youth and Children’s Choir – The Youth and Children’s Choir provides a fun environment for our young people to share themselves musically. Led by Christina Carter, Choral Director at Trinity Preparatory School and an Adjunct on the Vocal faculty at Rollins College, our young people bless us with their voices and smiles. Youth and Children’s Choir rehearsals are Sunday mornings.
- Adult and Children’s Bell Choirs – We are blessed to have two handbell choirs: one for adults and one for our very young people. Led by Larissa Hardesty, a graduate of Rollins College with degrees in both Music and Education, the distinctly beautiful sounds of handbells enrich our regular worship and special services throughout the year. Rehearsals are Sunday mornings after worship.
